The Truth About Soul Contracts & How They Work

Soul contracts are an important part of your experience here on earth. You chose the major soul contracts that you wanted to encounter before you incarnated into a physical body.

Soul contracts may sound very rigid. It may even sound like you lack the free will to create your life.

However, this isn’t true and soul contracts are much different than human contracts. You still have free will in how you create and navigate your life and all aspects of it.

However, you did want to have certain experiences before you incarnated on earth and chose different souls to make contracts with to help you accomplish that. Your higher self wants you to have these experiences even if it doesn’t always make sense to your rational mind.

When you fulfill these contracts, your higher self is happy because it can move on to having new experiences.

It isn’t just one-sided where certain people are here to help you have particular experiences. You are also helping other people with their soul contracts as well. So, while they are bringing a certain experience to you, you are also bringing one to them. You are both helping each other.

Since your higher self wants to experience certain things, soul contracts are fulfilling to your higher self. Even though they may challenge you, your higher self is completely satisfied with the experiences because its soul mission on earth is becoming fulfilled.

What Is a Soul Contract?

A soul contract is essentially making an agreement with another soul that they will come into your life at a certain time so that you can have a particular experience and vice versa. You will come into their life at a certain time to have a particular experience.

For example, you might create a contract when you are doing up your soul’s blueprint that you will meet up with a person at the age of 30 who you will work with. This person will help you on your spiritual awakening journey even though you have no idea when you first meet them.

They will be 40 years old at that time and going through a divorce. You will help them with getting through the rough period in their life during that time. You essentially are both helping each other in different ways during a particular phase of your lives.

Who Do You Have Soul Contracts With?

You have soul contracts with every soul you come into contact with. This includes human souls, animal souls, insect souls, etc.

Before you incarnated, you choose which family you’d be born into and essentially created a contract with those souls.

If you see a dead animal laying on the side of the road, you have a soul contract to see that for a particular reason.

Soul contracts are contracts between you and every soul you encounter whether they are alive or dead. 

Soul Contracts Can Be Brief

Not every soul contract is a big extravagant life-changing experience where you stay together for years and years. Some can be extremely brief but incredibly powerful.

So, while you have a contract with the grocery clerk at the store and only see them for a couple of minutes, that likely won’t change your life in a huge way, although they can.

But you may run into someone briefly who says exactly what you need to hear to move your life into a completely new path. Here are 2 examples of very brief but powerful soul contracts that I had:

#1 Example

My boyfriend broke up with me, so I went to a psychic to see if we’d be together again. That is the only reason I went to her. However, she said one phrase that completely changed my life that had nothing to do with the reason I was there.

The psychic said, “there’s a struggle between the light and dark right now on earth so things are changing fast.” I left and kept thinking what on earth was she talking about?

I went down rabbit holes for years learning about the dark agenda and how we are going through a spiritual battle here on earth. It completely changed everything that I thought and knew in my life and altered it big time.

That soul contract was here to say that one phrase to me to change my life forever. Maybe you’ve experienced the same? Where someone said one thing to you that forever changed the course of your life?

Or perhaps you’ve done the same for someone else but maybe don’t even realize it. In that case, you were there to help them, and you had a soul contract to come in and move them in a new direction.

#2 Example

I was at my regular CrossFit gym and feeling like something was off. I felt like I didn’t belong there anymore but wasn’t willing to switch gyms. I ignored my intuition and just kept going but felt like something didn’t fit anymore.

A new guy to the gym came up to me as I was standing by myself and said, “Hi, it’s my first day here. You must also be new here because you’re standing by yourself.”

The thing is, I wasn’t new, I was there for 2 years and didn’t make any real connections with the people there.

That one phrase he said opened my eyes big time and solidified everything that I thought about it not feeling right. So, I reluctantly tried out another gym even though it was uncomfortable to try something new. 

I absolutely loved it, made amazing friends, and felt like I fit in there. It was the best group of people I’ve ever met, and we always hung out outside the gym. No one was left out and everyone was great friends.

So, this soul contract came in to push me to make a move that I already knew I should do but was holding myself back from doing. I have never seen that guy ever again since that day, yet he changed my life in a huge way just by one sentence.

Your spirit guides will help to bring soul contracts like that on your path when they know you need an extra push and aren’t doing it yourself. They often know what you need to get to the place you want to go.

Soul contracts come in many different forms, and you may be surprised how powerful and unexpected a brief encounter can be for your life.

Can Soul Contracts Be Changed?

Yes, they can. However, this is up to your higher self. It isn’t something that happens on a conscious level that you are generally aware of.

For example, you may choose to meet up with a lover in your life with who you have a soul contract to teach you certain things. One of the things they are here to teach you is how to be sovereign.

Your contract is to meet him when you are 25 years old. You end up working in a place that challenges you significantly and teaches you the experience of sovereignty that you want to have. So, you learn the lesson that he was supposed to teach you before meeting him.

Now, your soul doesn’t need to keep having this experience because it’s been experienced fully.

So, your higher self sits down and changes your contract to meet up with someone else with who you will have a different experience with. This is easy to do because you already have other options available before you incarnate as you knew this certain scenario might play out.

At a higher level, your soul changed its contract but at your human, conscious level you have no idea that this happened.

You review your life after you die but it is unlikely that you will know this until then. Although it is possible as higher consciousness comes into the planet and everyone upgrades their intuitive awareness.

Is a Soul Contract a Positive Experience?

Many can be a positive, joyful experience, however, not all are. Some can challenge you in ways to help you to create a new aspect for yourself or help you with something you want to learn.

For example, you may be a very impatient person and, in this lifetime, you decided that is something that you want to work on. So, you create a soul contract to have a child who teaches you to be more patient.

This child comes in and challenges you to the core. This little human is in no rush to get anywhere and it ‘forces’ you to learn how to be patient with other people. Even though it may be very difficult, it is helping you to develop an aspect within you that you want to cultivate more of.

Some Soul Contracts Will Be Uncompleted Contracts from a Past Life

In the year we are in 2021, we are completing all of our karma and finishing things that we may not have been able to in past lives.

So, you may have had a soul contract with someone in a past life that you didn’t complete for whatever reason. Maybe you ran out of time, or you strayed from your path, and it didn’t get completed. However, your higher self really wanted to experience it.

So, you may bring that into your current incarnation to finish it up. This can happen in any incarnation. However, I find more and more completions are happening in this lifetime due to the ascension of the planet to 5D earth.

Before you incarnated in this lifetime you created new soul contracts and may also have past lifetime ones that you are finishing now. You’re an eternal being so it doesn’t really matter when you get it done. Also, it’s everything YOU want to experience, and no one will be upset if you don’t do it. It’s all your choice.

How To Know If You Have a Past Life Soul Contract with Someone?

Through my own experience, I’ve found my past life connections are the ones that come in when I’m not looking for them and in an unexpected way. They surprise and delight me when I’m least expecting it.

For example, I was feeling the energy of cats and dreaming of cats for a few months. I got a very strong urge that I wanted a cat however, I didn’t go out and get one. I just felt it.

2 weeks later after that strong urge and sensing the energy of a cat, a couple of stray cats showed up at my parent’s farm. They had no owners and were looking for food.

So, we took care of them, and I felt my bond with the one cat getting stronger and stronger to the point where I wanted to take him in and take care of him.

Every time he looked into my eyes, I could feel his soul and I knew that I knew him from a past life somehow. He came in the most unexpected way and has helped me through the tough times of 2021 so much more than I could have ever anticipated anyone could do.

I am 100% sure that this soul contract came in for many reasons. He’s helped me and I help him with food and shelter and also having a companion to hang out with.

When someone comes in like that, in a very unexpected way they will often play a significant part in your soul’s journey.

If you are sensing someone coming in, then the energy of them is getting closer. They will show up very soon, often without you having to look for them. Your souls know how to find each other, and your spirit guides will help you to fulfill your soul contract with each other.

How Soul Contracts Can Help You

You have a soul contract with everyone you come into contact with, including animals. However, not everyone is from your soul family and not everyone is a life-changing contract.

The ones I’m referring to here are the profoundly important soul contracts that help you at a much deeper level than just the grocery clerk at the store. These ones are the ones who may be from your soul group and who have a big mission with you here on earth.

1. A Soul Contract Pushes You to Your Life’s Mission

A soul contract can be extremely motivating and make you want to be and do better. They bring out a spark within you that makes you want to go after your dreams. Some are better at this than others.

So, they may be there to help you discover and then go after your life’s mission. If you are wondering what your mission is and aren’t sure, ask for help. You can ask the universe, your spiritual team, or whoever you resonate with.

Then wait and take inspired action when it comes. Someone such an important soul contract may come into your life that helps you discover and go after your higher purpose here on earth.

2. A Soul Contract Brings You Joy and Motivation

Soul contracts can either feel really good or really bad. Sometimes someone will come in to help you with something, but it feels really painful.

I find more often than not; your soul contracts are extremely joyful experiences. Have you ever met someone who seemed to have this spark that you’ve never felt before? Like there was this energy about them that was so unique, yet so familiar and you just knew that they’d play a big role in your life?

Your soul contracts can bring you tons of joy and motivation. Just being around them makes you want to be a better person and motivates you to go after your dreams.

You have so much fun with them and they feel so good to be around. There is something different about them and you can’t quite put your finger on what it is. But it doesn’t matter because you feel so good around them. Soul contracts can bring you much joy and happiness.

3. A Soul Contract Helps You to Cultivate an Aspect Within You That You Want

You chose to have certain experiences before you incarnated on earth and chose which aspects of yourself, you’d like to work on.

For example, one person may choose to work on self-confidence, another person to work on courage, and another on patience.

A soul contract may come in to help you create these aspects within your character at a higher level.

So, they may challenge you in a way that ‘forces’ you to become more courageous. Nothing is ever forced even though it may feel that way.

But just by their action, it springs you into action to develop that aspect that you want in yourself. Perhaps other souls tried but you weren’t as motivated, so a stronger soul connection will come in to push you harder to do it.

They are there to help you. They know what you need and want (at a higher level), and they want you to succeed at what you want to accomplish in this incarnation.

4. A Soul Contract Helps You to Heal from Trauma (Past Life, Current Life, or Ancestorial)

Ancestorial trauma and patterns can be passed down through bloodlines and sometimes a soul is not able to heal all its trauma. This can be for many reasons such as it is too painful, they don’t want to incarnate on earth again, they want to explore new things (and not be tied down to their past ‘stuff’), or they are having a very difficult time healing it on their own.

So, what happens is a soul who is in that soul group will volunteer to incarnate on earth and heal it for them. So, you may be healing stuff that isn’t even yours! You may think that’s unfair but understand that you chose this at a soul level. You always have free will.

Or, you may have trauma from this life that is preventing you from moving forward and you aren’t able to heal it yourself.

A soul contract may step in during this time to help you with this. They know when the best time to do this is and it will only be when you are ready, no sooner than that. So, if you are ready then a soul contract can help you with it.

5. A Soul Contract Can Help You to Improve Your Future Relationships

You often learn a LOT from your soul contracts, especially about relationships.

Often, they have aspects in them that you want to bring more into your own life. Just being around them helps you to see relationships in a new light and helps you to decide how you want to be in your relationships. These can be any type of relationship and not only romantic ones.

So, your future relationship may be much better because of everything you learned from a particular soul contract. They can really help you work on things that help you in the future with other relationships.

6. A Soul Contract Teaches You How to Gracefully Let Go

Letting go can be really hard but is something that everyone has to experience on earth. Whether you lose someone to death or because they exit your life for a different reason, it’s never easy.

Soul contracts teach you that it is ok to let go and move on. You are still with that soul in your heart. As painful as it may be, you will see them again sometime.

When you serve your purpose in your relationship with your soul contract, you will go your separate way. This makes room for new soul contacts to enter your life so that you can experience new things.

Can a Soul Contract Be Broken?

There may be many times when you don’t complete your soul contract in one incarnation and choose to complete it in the following incarnation. In this case, the contract isn’t broken, only delayed. It is normal to not get done everything that you want to in one incarnation.

When you are going through choosing your next life, you can decide to ‘break’ this contract. Your higher self has no judgment if you do.

You may break it because you’ve experienced some of it and feel that you don’t need to experience it any further. Or you may just not want to do it.

If you choose not to then it can be broken or someone else in your soul group can choose to experience it for you if they want to help you.

I know this sounds weird but if someone else in your soul group experiences it, then you also experience it. You are connected on a soul level, and everything has a ripple effect that goes out.

So, you may not have a firsthand experience, but you will still feel what it feels like to have that experience through your soul group.

Everything that happens in some way affects everyone else in the world. If you are connected through a soul connection, you feel it more deeply.

This also works with your spirit guides. What you are experiencing here on earth, they are also experiencing just at a different level and with a different perception.

Since everything is connected, a soul contract that someone else completes isn’t really broken, only experienced firsthand by someone else.

As I mentioned, there is no judgment for delaying or breaking a soul contract that you have.

Final Thoughts – The Truth About Soul Contracts & How They Work

Some soul contracts last a long time and other ones are brief moments in your life. Even if the contract only lasts a few days, it was still in your contract to meet up to experience something together.

Past life soul contracts often affect you the deepest and feel the most intense. They are the ones where you just know that you know someone but don’t know how. That means you know each other from a past life.

Other soul contracts may not have much of an impact on you at all. However, you may impact someone else greatly. You may say one thing that changes their life forever. So, that contract was more about them than you.

No matter which type of soul contracts you experience, each one will help to shape you into the person you want to be. They also help you to fulfill your soul’s mission and experience what you came to earth to experience.
