Your third eye chakra is your sixth chakra located in the middle of your forehead between your two eyes. This is called your third eye because it is where you get your psychic seeing from. It is the chakra that allows you to see beyond this physical world. The third eye chakra is where you use your intuition to manifest your dreams into reality. This chakra is the color indigo.
Some intuitives can see spirit guides, angels, ascended masters and people that that crossed over. The third eye is how they can see these things. They activate this chakra and it allows them to see beyond what just our physical eyes can see.
What Are Chakras?
Our chakras are our energy centers. They are vortexes of spinning energy that create who we are and what we do.
All your energy systems work together. Therefore, if one becomes blocked and unbalanced it can contribute to the rest of your chakras being out of balance.
If you have third eye chakra blockages, then the chakras right beside it (the crown chakra & throat chakra) will have to step up and take on some of the workload. The other chakras will have to step up to make up for the chakra that is unbalanced as the whole energy system will be thrown off.
It is important to make sure all of your chakras are balanced because they all work together in perfect harmony.

*I’ve found crown chakra blockages and third eye chakra blockages can have many of the same symptoms. This makes sense as these chakras are right beside each other and work closely together. Third eye chakra blockages have more to do with what you see and feel in your physical world. Whereas, the crown chakra has more to do with a higher perspective and your connected to oneness in the universe.
What Does an Open & Balanced Third Eye Chakra Look Like?
When your third eye is open and in balance, you receive intuitive information quite clearly. You don’t experience headaches or pain around your face. Your eyes are focused and you can see things quite clearly. You have a clear head and can focus on the task at hand. You sleep quite well and wake up feeling rested. You are able to visualize your dreams and create them in this physical reality.
How Does Your Third Eye Chakra Become Imbalanced?
1. The Chakras Beside It are Unbalanced – If your crown chakra or your throat chakra are unbalanced then your third eye will most likely become unbalanced. As the third eye is right in the middle of them, it will compensate to make up for the other ones being out of balance. Everything works together in a system.
2. Toxic Substances – Drug, alcohol and processed foods can cause your third eye chakra to become unbalanced. The third eye chakra needs a clean energy channel to function properly and if it is trying to access information but has foreign substances in its way, it will be more difficult to receive that information. It will try to filter out the toxic substances but will have to go through some resistance to get the information.
This goes for toxic thoughts as well. If you are having a lot of toxic thoughts that are not good for you then it will also cause your third eye to become imbalanced.
3. Lack or Quality of Sleep – When you sleep, you rejuvenate your body and soul. If you aren’t getting adequate sleep, then your soul will still be tired. This will drag you down and it will be more difficult to receive information through your third eye.
4. Anxiety & Depression – If you are experiencing a low mood, anxiety or depression this can cause your third eye to become blocked.
How to Heal and Bring Your Third Eye Chakra Back into Balance
1. Color Therapy - Bring more indigo into your life. This is the same color as the third eye chakra, and it will help to balance it. Wear indigo, look at indigo pictures and eat indigo food such as blackberries or plums.
Notice if you are drawn to the color indigo as well. You are drawn to the colors you need and are lacking in your life. For example, if you are drawn to orange then your sacral chakra may need some attention.
2. Amethyst – This crystal is great for opening your third eye. Carry a piece or amethyst around and put a piece in your pillowcase to help to balance the third eye chakra.
3. Meditation – You will be able to balance your third eye chakra by meditating. In fact, balancing any of your chakras is easily achieved by meditating and visualizing them as clear, whole energy systems. Focus on the color you want to balance, and it will easily bring it back into balance.
4. Restful Sleep – Be sure to get lots of good quality sleep in order to balance all your chakras and especially your third eye chakra. You may also receive third eye information in your dreams. It’s a good idea to keep a dream journal and look back in it for patterns and information that may benefit you.
5. Healthy Body and Mind – You will be able to bring your third eye back into balance by developing a healthy diet. When you put toxic substances into your body, you hinder your ability to connect through your third eye. By taking care of yourself with a good diet, exercise and healthy thoughts, you will have a clearer third eye chakra. You are more likely to receive divine information when you are in a higher vibration.
6. Take Breaks from Screen Time – If you have an office job or watch a lot of tv, be sure to take lots of breaks. The screen can hurt your eyes and that includes your third eye. Starring at a screen for many hours at a time isn’t good for your eyes so it’s important to take a break when you can.
Bottom Line: Third Eye Chakra Blockages
If your third eye is blocked, you won’t have access to your intuitive guidance from yourself and your spirit guides. You may experience headaches and are not able to clearly understand the information you do receive.
The sixth chakra is an important one to keep balanced because it is the seat to where your dreams are created. It is how you visualize your dreams into reality. The sixth chakra is where you receive powerful information that can transform your life. An open third eye chakra will enable you to clearly create a vision for your life and receive the intuitive guidance to make your dreams a reality.
